Summertime is a special season. The kids are out of school (so less traffic), the sunshine seems never-ending and there’s no shortage of adventures that await.

For many, summer evokes fond memories of childhood—sleepaway camp, trips to the lake and pool parties. We always look forward to celebrating our nation’s independence. For us in town, that means the Peachtree Road Race, notable this year as it marks the 50th year of the race. We spent some time in this issue in celebration of that.

Atlanta is home to one of the most famous painters in the nation. When you think of Patriotic images, think Steve Penley. It was an honor and a true pleasure to be invited into his studio. Surrounded by paint and paintings, we got to learn more about him and his effortless talent—and wit. I think our cover looks like he has painted himself into a painting, and we came to find out that is a goal of his—”to make people feel like they are actually in one of my paintings,” said Steve.

Enjoy July in Midtown! Summer flies by fast, so make it last. Better yet, find a lake to jump into.
