Polo in The Pines, Oct. 5-6

Madison Williams was 16 when debilitating headaches and nausea sent her to the ER. A week later, she had a brain tumor removed and began her fight against grade III anaplastic ependymoma, the malignant form of brain cancer that affects the cells that line the brain and its ventricles as well as the spinal cord.

Today, more than three years later, she continues to suffer daily side effects from the radiation to her brain. Still, she has graduated high school and finished her freshman year at the University of North Georgia studying for a career as a neurosurgeon, orthopedic surgeon or biomedical engineer. Her goals include affecting positive change in the lives of children who, like herself, have been diagnosed with brain cancer or other forms of childhood cancer.

When Madison met Caroline Brewer, they bonded over their cancer-driven bald spots, caused by the same type of cancer. Caroline was the 2018 Polo in the Pines Honoree and this year, the event will honor Madison and her fight. Polo in the Pines is an exciting annual charity polo event dedicated to The Sharon McCollum Knight Polo in the Pines Pediatric Cancer Research Fund at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
